The price of a smoking habit adds up far beyond a single pack. This calculator turns cigarettes per day and pack price into the daily, monthly, yearly, and ten-year cost so the long-term number is impossible to ignore.

How it works

Daily cost = (cigarettes per day ÷ cigarettes per pack) × pack price. Multiply out for longer horizons.

The model is purely the cost of the cigarettes themselves. It figures out the fraction of a pack you smoke each day, multiplies by the pack price for a daily cost, and then scales that figure across longer time horizons.

Because the daily number is small, the habit feels affordable in the moment. Projecting it out is the point — the same few dollars a day becomes a major annual expense and a five-figure sum over a decade.

Daily cost = (cigarettes per day ÷ cigarettes per pack) × pack price. Monthly ≈ daily × 30. Yearly = daily × 365. Ten-year = daily × 365 × 10.

FAQ

Why does the monthly figure use 30 days instead of an exact month?

Thirty days is a clean approximation for a quick estimate. The yearly figure uses the full 365 days, so for an exact annual cost rely on the yearly line rather than multiplying the monthly number by 12.

Does this include the future health costs of smoking?

No. It captures only what you spend buying cigarettes. Medical costs, higher insurance, and other downstream expenses are real but not modeled here.

How should I handle a habit that varies day to day?

Use your weekly average divided by seven for cigarettes per day. That smooths out heavier and lighter days into a representative figure.
