Contracts, shipping estimates, and legal filing windows are usually quoted in business days rather than calendar days. This calculator counts only the weekdays between two dates so a quoted turnaround maps to a real date on the calendar.
How it works
Counts whole weeks as 5 business days each, then walks the remaining days, skipping Saturdays and Sundays.
The math counts each whole week as five business days, then walks the leftover days one at a time and skips any that fall on a Saturday or Sunday. This is faster and less error-prone than ticking off every day by hand.
Public holidays are not subtracted, because holiday calendars vary by country, state, and company. If your deadline spans known holidays, subtract those days separately from the result.
Business days = (whole weeks between the dates × 5) + the weekdays among the remaining leftover days.
Worked examples
From January 1, 2026 to March 31, 2026. → 63 business days
The span is 89 total days made of 12 full weeks plus leftover weekdays, giving 63 business days and 26 weekend days.
A supplier quotes a 10 business day lead time starting Monday. → Delivery falls two calendar weeks later
Ten weekdays equal two full work weeks, so a Monday start lands on the Friday of the following week.
Tips & gotchas
- Subtract any public holidays in the range yourself; the calculator counts every Monday through Friday regardless of holiday status.
- The order of the two dates does not matter; the calculator always counts the gap between them.
- For shipping or service-level estimates, confirm whether the provider counts the start day itself or begins on the next business day.
- A quick mental check: business days are roughly 5/7 of the calendar days in any long span.
FAQ
Are public holidays excluded?
No. Only Saturdays and Sundays are removed. Because holiday calendars differ by region, you should subtract any relevant holidays from the result manually.
Does it matter which date I enter first?
No. If the end date is earlier than the start date, the calculator simply counts the span between them.
Is the start date itself counted?
The result counts the weekdays in the span between the two dates. When tracking a deadline, verify whether your contract starts counting on the order day or the next business day.
