Counting down to a wedding, a product launch, a vacation, or a final exam turns a far-off date into a concrete, motivating number. This calculator shows exactly how many days, weeks, and months remain until any future date, measured from today.
How it works
Counts whole days from today to the target date; a past date shows how long ago it was.
The countdown is measured in whole calendar days from today's date to the target, so weekends and holidays are included. Weeks are simply days divided by seven, and months use an average length of 30.44 days, which is the year's 365.25 days spread evenly across 12 months.
If the date you enter has already passed, the calculator flips into hindsight mode and tells you how many days ago it occurred instead of counting up from a negative number.
Days remaining = whole calendar days from today to the target date. Weeks = days ÷ 7. Months ≈ days ÷ 30.44. Approximate work days = days × 5 ÷ 7.
Worked examples
Counting down to December 25, 2026 from June 24, 2026. → 184 days to go (26.3 weeks, about 6.0 months)
From June 24 to December 25 is 184 calendar days; 184 ÷ 7 is 26.3 weeks and 184 ÷ 30.44 is about 6.0 months.
A deadline that was 10 days ago. → 10 days ago (1.4 weeks ago)
When the target date is in the past, the result reports how long ago it was rather than a countdown.
Tips & gotchas
- The approximate work-days figure assumes a standard five-day week and does not remove public holidays.
- Month counts are averaged, so a precise calendar-month difference may vary by a day or two.
- Set the target to a past date to measure elapsed time since an anniversary or milestone.
- For a deadline that must fall on a weekday, pair this with the Add or Subtract Days calculator to check the day of the week.
FAQ
What happens if I enter a date that already passed?
The calculator switches to showing how many days ago that date occurred, along with how many weeks ago, instead of a forward countdown.
How are the month and week figures calculated?
Weeks are the remaining days divided by seven. Months use an average month length of about 30.44 days, so they are an approximation rather than exact calendar months.
Does the countdown include weekends?
Yes, the main count is in calendar days. A separate approximate work-days figure estimates only the Monday-through-Friday portion.
