DIY at your own risk. Calcora's calculators and guides are general estimates and information only — not professional, engineering, legal, or safety advice. Always verify local building codes and permit requirements, and hire a licensed pro for electrical, gas, plumbing, structural, or any work you're not fully comfortable doing yourself.

Project estimates, cooking, and scheduling all bounce between seconds, minutes, hours, days, and weeks. This converter pivots every duration through seconds so any of those conversions is exact and immediate.

How it works

Durations convert through seconds as the base unit.

Seconds are the base. The chain is fixed and clean: 60 seconds per minute, 60 minutes per hour, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week — so the multipliers compound predictably.

The 'years' option uses 31,557,600 seconds, the average Julian year of 365.25 days. That averaging accounts for leap years, so a single calendar year may be slightly shorter or longer.

Result = (value × seconds-per-source-unit) ÷ seconds-per-target-unit.

FAQ

How many seconds are in a day?

Exactly 86,400 (24 × 60 × 60). A week is 7 times that, or 604,800 seconds.

Why isn't there a months option?

Months range from 28 to 31 days, so there's no single factor. Convert through days for an exact figure, or approximate one month as 30.44 days.

How long is the 'year' used here?

365.25 days (31,557,600 seconds), the average Julian year that smooths out leap years. A specific calendar year may differ by a day.
